Mission Trip bulgaria - 2006

Our mission trip to Bulgaria in July 2006 was an unqualified success. To understand the purpose it is helpful to understand a little of the background of this Creation Evangelism outreach. Creation Evangelist Darin Ivanov has been translating Answers in Genesis and other Creation material into Bulgarian for at least 4 years. One major effort was to translate then print 10,000 copies of these Answers booklets.

Then Darin began to translate and include subtitles on a number of Creation videos. He had to provide for copyright permission, DVD copying equipment and printing of the labels.

We decided to donate TV/DVD combinations in key locations around Bulgaria with a rich collection of Creation materials in Bulgarian and English. This way people on all levels of the Bulgarian society would have access to information showing the Bible to be true all the way back to the first verse. Most educated people in Bulgaria can read English. This is especially true of scientists and educators. The locations include public libraries, universities, public and private schools and churches. Our Creation library includes information for children, lay people and even technical journals for scientists just as is available in English speaking countries.

Darin also worked with a carpenter to design a very professional custom shelf system for all the materials.

Our first distribution was in the town of Betobo (pronounced Vetovo).

We had an audience of about 30 people of whom half were Muslim. They received our presentation well and have a prominent location in their public library for our Creation Video Evangelist system.

As in most of our distributions we had about an hour long presentation from Darin and the US team which included showing a full length Creation video. From there we went to an Electrical college in Rousse with Bishop Peter and the whole faculty came out from summer vacation to view our presentation. Next we traveled to Sofia for a distribution at the National Library. We were overwhelmed as scientists from the National Academy of Sciences were in attendance along with librarians and members of the media. Not only were advance notices of our meetings placed in newspapers, but also follow up stories with pictures.

Next the Borovo Public Library made us feel especially welcome as they entertained us with several dance numbers by the local dance troupe before we presented our Creation evidences. A muslim woman shared how she became a Bible believing Christian and holds God's Word to be the center of her life. Jerry emerged as a Creation Evangelist as he shared the concepts of Intelligent Design.

In the town whose name in English means Twin Peaks we had a special treat in making a distribution in the culture center, site of the town's public library and former communist indoctrination center. Here it became apparent that at least 10 ministries had significant input into this mission trip. This is not about any of us getting special attention, but it is all for the Glory of the Lord Jesus Christ and to build His kingdom. Danka and Marin, the local pastors, were there and had a great time sharing with the local Biology teacher afterwards. We find doors open throughout the educational community as well as the local governments, library administrators and scientific community for science with a Christian Worldview being presented in Bulgaria. Each location is connected with a local Evangelical Pastor for oversight and reference for those seeking to grow further in Christian faith.

Traveling East along the Danube River through what must be some of the most beautiful farming country in the world we came to another large city, Silistra. Here we made a presentation at a large public school where again they called in the entire staff. They were very interested in incorporating into their curriculum the latest information about the true history of the world as is available now in Young Earth Creation materials. It is all very exciting and there is much opportunity in schools in Bulgaria. We need to translate more materials especially for the young so we can raise the next generation of Bulgarians with a Christian Worldview.

Brother Yanko Dobrev is our local pastor contact. He told us the exciting account of his conversion from a KGB agent under communism, assigned to persecute Christians, to a Christian and pastor with a network of churches in the Silistra area.

We wrapped up our distributions for the week at the public library in Rousse. We did not make a presentation here as Darin has held public meetings here before. Brother Jerry had a very long conversation with the administrator of the library that included concepts of Intelligent Design. She started the library 14 years ago and is very open to sharing Christian Worldview concepts in this regional library setting.

We are taking this country back for the Lord.  Even Muslims are coming to Jesus! We are reaching children, adults, scientists and community leaders.   Praise the Lord for all He is doing in Bulgaria.
